The Betty Strong Encounter Center will host “Merry TUBACHRISTMAS,” a concert featuring Siouxland area tuba and euphonium players, at 2:00 pm Saturday December 7. Admission will be free, a reception will follow

The audience will hear traditional Christmas carols arranged by composer Alec Wilder who died on Christmas Eve 1980. In addition to composing music for the tuba and euphonium, Wilder was a loyal supporter of the efforts to improve the literature and public image of these  instruments.

The first “Merry TUBACHRISTMAS” was presented at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in 1974 and has been entertaining crowds ever since. “Merry TUBACHRISTMAS” in Siouxland will be under the baton of Tim Barrett. Barret is the internet marketing manager at Ray’s Midbell Music. “This is a chance for area Tuba players to band together, some are as old as 72 and others as young as 11 have signed up to play Holiday tunes,” Says Barrett.
