The Betty Strong Encounter Center will present “Now You See It, Now You Don’t” with Siouxland magician Corey Fravel at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. Admission will be free; a cookie reception will follow.

Fravel will entertain kids with a range of card and other sleight-of-hand tricks and games. His program connects to the Center’s interest in promoting traditional games.

The Lewis & Clark Expedition recorded a number of observances of hiding games played by Native peoples. The object of these games was to fool opponents’ eyes while shifting game pieces among hiding places, either in hands or under a moccasin or other concealments. Competitors then guessed where a game piece was hidden.

Fravel began performing magic shows more than a decade ago at West Middle School student. Today, he presents his act at a wide variety of private and public venues.
