Kids' Art Contest Drop-in Workshop

The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center invites students, preschool through fifth grade, to enter “If I Were a Captain” Art Contest.

Participants will imagine themselves commanding their own expedition and then create artwork based on their imaginings. Three winners will be chosen; each will receive a $50 prize.

To inspire young artists, a free, drop-in workshop will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Center. Art supplies will be furnished.

“Some young artists may see themselves in medieval armor, sailing on a Viking ship in search of lost treasure. Some may see themselves leading an expedition to outer space,” says Sara Olson, the Center’s Education Coordinator.

Students may enter in one of the following divisions:
1. pre-school through first grade
2. second and third grades
3. fourth and fifth grade

Artwork must be original and submitted by March 1 to the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, 900 Larsen Park Road, Sioux City, Iowa 51103 or to SOlson@siouxcitylcic.com.

Entries must include the artist’s name, school and contact information. Prizes will be awarded at a “Captains’ Party” at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Center.
