Center presents Katie Admire encore

(Aug. 1, 2008) – The Center will present an encore performance by vocalist Katie Admire at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 on the Center’s grounds. Admission will be free. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Katie became known as “Siouxland’s Idol” when she advanced last season to semi-finalist on the popular TV show “American Idol.” Her standing-room-only program at the Encounter Center on Mother’s Day in May inspired the upcoming appearance.

Her outdoor show will include a range of favorites including hits from Broadway, country and pop music. It also will showcase new pieces.

“Singing at the Encounter Center on Mother’s Day this year was one of my most memorable experiences as a performer. I’m thrilled to be returning for an outdoor program with songs I know visitors know and love,” says the Sergeant Bluff-Luton graduate who will begin studies at Belmont University, Nashville, Tenn., fall semester.

In addition to her national television appearance, Katie has performed throughout the tri-state area. She won the Nebraska State Fair Galaxy of Stars talent competition; the Colgate Country Showdown in Okoboji, Iowa; and was a semi-finalist in the Bill Riley Talent Competition at the Iowa State Fair. She plans to pursue a career in the music industry.

The Betty Strong Encounter Center is a private, non-profit institution connected to the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD) and located on the Missouri Riverfront, exit 149 off I-29. Admission is free. Call 712-224-5242 or visit www.siouxcitylcic.com.
