Encounter Center hosts Mo. River Clean-up meeting (April 29, 2008) – Plans for the upcoming Missouri River clean-up day in the Sioux City area will be discussed at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at the Betty Strong Encounter Center on the Missouri Riverfront. The public is invited to the meeting. The clean-up is being organized by Missouri River Relief, headquartered in Columbia, Mo. The non-profit has organized 37 clean-ups along 434 miles of the Missouri River. These efforts have removed more than 400 tons of solid waste from the river and involved more than 7,000 volunteers. The Encounter Center meeting will focus on details of the Sioux City clean-up scheduled for June 7. The effort will call for several hundred volunteers and community-wide cooperation. The organizational meeting is co-sponsored by the Betty Strong Encounter Center, Missouri River Relief and the Izaak Walton League of America.
