“Cornscape” photographer sets program
at Betty Strong Encounter Center

(Dec. 12, 2007) – South Dakota agri-photographer Greg Latza will present an illustrated program at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. Admission will be free.

Latza traveled parts of Siouxland and beyond to encounter images for “Cornscape,” a show now on display in the Encounter Center’s gallery. His images move from an old-fashioned corn-husking competition to family life on the farm to fiery sunsets over the land. “Weather” shots, aerial images, corn palaces and Jolly Time Pop Corn figure into the story of the grain most of the world calls “maize.”

Latza began his career as a photojournalist, working first at the Milwaukee Journal; Rochester (Minn.) Post-Bulletin; Salina (Kan.) Journal; and Sioux Falls Argus Leader. As a freelance photographer, he works on assignment for agricultural publications and regional and national advertising clients. He and his wife, Jodi, have published seven photography books on varied South Dakota themes.

The Betty Strong Encounter Center is located on Sioux City’s Missouri Riverfront, exit 149 off I-29. Admission and parking are free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; closed Monday. For more information, visit www.siouxcitylcic.com or call 712-224-5242.
