Center seeks Missouri River images (July 2, 2007) - The Encounter Center, now under construction on the Missouri Riverfront, will dedicate part of its life to illuminating the dynamic Missouri River. Maps, graphics and photographs will take visitors along the river, from Yankton, S.D., and on to Omaha. The Encounter Center will open in late fall to meet the expanded mission of the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. The $3.5 million project is being funded entirely by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD). The Missouri River focus is under development in partnership with Magis Productions at Creighton University and in consultation with Tim Cowman of the South Dakota Geological Survey. Don Doll, S.J., of Magis Productions, is the Center’s art consultant and photo exhibition editor. Photographs will be selected for the “River Connection” exhibit from a variety of sources, including submissions from area and regional photographers. Professionals and amateurs are encouraged to submit images to be selected by Fr. Doll, Cowman and the Center’s staff. Photographers whose work is chosen for the exhibit will receive an honorarium and will be promoted as part of the “River Connection.” “This is an opportunity for both professional and amateur photographers to have their work seen as part of a high-profile exhibition,” says Fr. Doll who has received the Kodak Crystal Eagle Award for Impact in Photojournalism and the Nikon “World Understanding through Photography” award. Photographers should submit their work on disk to Marcia Poole, director of the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, 900 Larsen Park Road, Sioux City, Iowa. Releases will be required if people are in the photos and are recognizable. Releases are available at the Center. For more information, contact Poole at: mpoole@siouxcitylcic.com. The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center is a private, non-profit institution, built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD) and located on the Missouri Riverfront, exit 149, off I-29; 712-224-5242; www.siouxcitylcic.com.
