Free flute class at the Center

  (June 7, 2006) - The Center will offer a free Native flute class for children at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11 in the Keelboat Theatre. Michael Murphy, a frequent guest artist at the Center, will be the instructor. Each student will receive a free flute.

  Participants will learn about the legend of the flute, its origin and basics of playing the instrument and writing and finding songs. “I will cover styles, fancy notes, or embellishments, and flute construction,” says Murphy who has recorded five independent albums, including “Peace,” “Ethnic Cleansing – Trail of Tears,” and “Sacred Heart.”

  The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, exit 149 off I-29, is a private, non-profit institution built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD).
