(June 2, 2006) -The Center’s six-part summer nature series, “Interpreting the Natural World,” will begin Tuesday, June 6 with “The Sights and Sounds of Summer.” The session, led by Bill and Mary Klein, will include time in the Center’s Garden of Discovery. “Interpreting the Natural World” activities are designed for 8- to 12-year-olds, but children and adults of all ages may participate. Each session begins at 9:30 a.m. Admission and materials are free. Other “Interpreting the Natural World” sessions are:
Mary and Bill Klein have presented literature and science programs throughout the United States. Mary is a credentialed English teacher and speech-language pathologist. She worked for many years as a speech-language pathologist with pre-school through high school students, integrating literature with many areas of learning. Bill Klein is the author of two outdoor science manuals, “Learning Under the Sun” and “Learning for All Seasons.” He is retired from the Sioux City Community School District after many years of teaching biology and serving as K-12 Science Coordinator. He was honored with an Iowa Academy of Science Excellence in Science Teaching Award. Bill is an adjunct instructor of Biology at Western Iowa Tech Community College. The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center is a private, non-profit institution, built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD). Admission, programs, activities and exhibits are free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; special holiday hours.
