(May 30, 2006) – The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center will present an outdoor pageant-style performance by Many Moccasins Dance Troupe at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 4 in the amphitheatre at the southeast end of the Center. The event will be free. The hour-long performance will include traditional songs and dances from a variety of Native cultures, including Ho-Chunk/Winnebago. The audience will learn about dance styles and the dress worn by performers.
Founded in 2001, Many Moccasins features performers ranging from toddlers to adults. All are tribally enrolled. The non-profit promotes Native American pride, cultures and traditions, healthy lifestyles, self-esteem, and drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention. Student members must maintain good grades and rehearsal attendance, and be drug and alcohol free. Many Moccasins is directed by Garans Coons and Therese St. Cyr, of Winnebago. The outdoor event will be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, exit 149 off I-29, is a private, non-profit institution built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc.
