Visiting the Center

The Center offers group tours for fourth and fifth grade students and other age levels. Groups may request a docent to guide their experience by visiting the Center or calling 712-224-5242.

The Center does not attempt to tell the entire Lewis & Clark story. It focuses on present-day Sioux City's part of the trail. Murals and interactive exhibits help explain events of the journey that occurred in and around present-day Sioux City, from late July to early September 1804, including the illness, death, and burial of Sergeant Charles Floyd.

History comes to life in exhibits that use dozens of interactive devices and animatronics. A 12-minute video detailing the Lewis and Clark Expedition, produced for the Center, is shown in the Activity Room in conjunction with the tour. The Center's grounds feature: a 30-by-50 foot U.S. Flag; a 14-foot bronze sculpture depicting Lewis, Clark, and Lewis's dog Seaman; and the Garden of Discovery.
